A Lumens Breakdown
Not to be confused with Watts (which is a unit used to measure power), lumens (lm) is the measurement used to assess the brightness of the light bulbs. It’s used for any bulb measurement from house lamps, to security lights, to the lights on your vehicle. While each drivers preference varies, everyone should know what their options are.
To start out, the number of lumens per watt varies based on if the bulb is an LED, CFL, or Incandescent. The first step to choosing the right bulb would be switching over from your factory bulbs to LED. LED headlights are proven to be more energy efficient, and will save you money in the long run by prolonging your battery life. The average bulbs will run between 450lm and 2800lm (4-25 watts for LED) depending on your preference, the vehicle itself, and whether it’s running high or low beams. If you’re planning on taking any offroad adventures, it definitely does not hurt to go past those parameters, but again it all varies on your preferences.
